How to properly maintain your ecological duvet?

Washing

Ecological duvets are demanding in their maintenance and care. Being a natural and quality product, Scalff duvets are sensitive to wet treatments and cannot be washed in a conventional domestic washing machine. The natural fibers we use have a high hydrophilic character that allows them to absorb a large amount of moisture and give a sensation of outstanding comfort. Also, it is not suitable to use a domestic washing machine due to the size.

Scalff duvets are not suitable for bleaching, and use of a universal detergent containing oxygen for bleaching purposes should also be avoided. It is recommended not to put it in the dryer, but it can be ironed at a maximum of 120 ºC.

What is dry cleaning?

Dry cleaning is the professional washing process in which specific solvents are used to remove stains without water. In laundries, the nature of the textiles and their degree of dirt are taken into account to choose the most appropriate cleaning process for each duvet.

Drying

Drying is one of the fundamental steps for its care. It is recommended that you do not tumble dry your Scalff duvet. Some items are not recommended for use in tumble dryers for drying. We must pay special attention to articles made with natural fibers. For example, the mechanical action of the drum and the temperature of the treatment cause the formation of felt in articles that contain wool, as well as deformations of the article.

Once washed, hang it in a well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight and wait for it to dry. Before storing it, make sure that there is no moisture left in the padding to avoid unpleasant odors and the generation of bacteria.

How to store Scalff duvet? Eco-Friendly Duvet Maintenance

Finally, let’s talk about good storage practices. When you are about to change/store your Scalff duvet, there are a series of good practices that you can follow to do good maintenance and have your Scalff as if it were the first day.

To store the duvet keep in mind that the duvet is well dry before storing it. You can fold it up and store it in the Scalff cotton bag. Our bag is designed for you to store your Scalff, allowing it to breathe and preventing it from spoiling (it smells stuffy). Once inside the bag you should store it in a cool, dry place and keep it away from direct sunlight. Just before you use your eco-friendly duvet again, air it outside.
